The AIDS crisis not only leaves many orphans in its wake, but widows also. With no education and no hope of employment, the widows exist off of whatever they can grow in their garden. We took 50 widows and bought each one a piglet for $25.00 US. That's less than you and I could go out to dinner on. We also bought one boar. A very happy boar I might add. The widows fed the piglets the scraps from their gardens and when the time was right, the boar came a courting. A pig will have 2 litters per year, each litter consisting of approximately 10 piglets. We have taught the widows to give one of those piglets to another widow who doesn't have one. She then takes the other 9 to market and sells them for, you guessed it, $25.00 each. That translates into a yearly income of about $470.00 US per year. In Uganda, a college graduate who is lucky enough to find a job earns an average of $600.00 US per year. Your love and purchases from our company, took these women from complete poverty to upper middle class. You gave them "New Hope".
